Poker Odds

Poker odds is said to have factorial notation n! = n (n-1) (n-2) (n-3)….. Does it scare you? Well, it did scare me to the core! It is really a lot of confusing math scribbles. I will tell you it is not really easy arriving at 1999xxx combinations and probabilities. Poker odds are like hard nuts for a math allergic kid like me.

I discovered to use something called poker calculator to help me work out poker odds for I really hate all that binomial coefficients and calculating the number of thousands of unique hands in a 10 player table to be 3,948,xxx for a 52 card deck!

But using poker odds calculator at online tourneys and then proceeding with every move can disgust your co-players and make you feel odd before them.

I am okay with understanding the basics like A-A in hole cards is better than A with any other card, but when I will have to graduate further to calculate poker odds to place my chips, like arriving at possibilities of those face down cards.. I prefer just peeping in or grabbing the cards of my fellow players to have what they have, but that cannot happen isn’t it!

However, those were my psychological disposition towards calculating poker odds in by beginning games, but believe me I swear it was all possible at a later point in time!

Poker Room

An online poker room can offer you with playing space for no money or for money. As a beginner, I was interested in a poker room that would offer me free tables as I did not prefer to loose any money.

As against the casino poker room the online poker room did connect me to several players from around the world. The skills of the players were versatile ranging from the fishes to professionals. It was really an exciting beginning for me, because as I did happen to loose with professionals, I consoled myself by winning with a few fishes out there.

I preferred to play some tables in the poker room occupied by fishes, to just fuel me with some confidence that there will be a day where I will win high-skilled players. After all, I did require some pat on my back for winning some games despite playing crap. Heartening thing was that there were players that were even worse who did loose to me!

Well those were my beginning days…I keep blogging about my basic poker room beginning days just to encourage those new and excited players in a poker room to feel encouraged despite losing. Every good player of today was a bad player in their beginning years. The confusions and inabilities you have today is not new and only to you!

Learn Poker

Learn poker like any subject. It is math, it is psychology, it is a subject of entertainment and it is a subject that if you skillfully master can earn you money! But, before you set out to learn poker you need to set your heart strong for some shameful losses like losing all your chips, feeling bad about having folded with a good hand and many embarrassing sessions.

I do not mean to scare you! I just wanted to say that any kind of learn poker session truly involves not only mugging up the rules, but the real time experiences where you actually apply your skills, which can present you with some mix of exciting and boring experiences.

Truly, I never did make fruitful pots when I just kept with the theoretical part of the poker logics like rank, pairs and stuff. The real turn of my experience as a player was when I took some pain to learn poker from a mathematical point of view by getting to learn some basic applications like figuring out probabilities of winning like calculating the odds with factorial notation and some basic binomial calculations.

When I did set to learn poker in the math way, I were definitely scared and tried to cling to poker calculators, but until I did master the math part I never won! But today, I simply do the n! = n (n-1) (n-2) (n-3)….try it…I swear it is simple!

What is Texas Holdem?

What is Texas Holdem? Texas Holdem is lot of fun from my experiences. Initially, I was kind of confused. I knew the rules of the game, but applying it in the right place required some real losing. I made most of the blunders with comparing my pockets towards a poker with the community cards. I felt like a jester in the early days when the whole table laughed at how I missed many good pots.

In Texas Holdem there is a maximum of 4 bets allowed per player, which would include one bet per player followed by 3 raises in one betting round. I used to bet and make all the 3 raises with the worse of my hands! You know what I hoped, a better card in the next deal when the dealer used to deal the next set of street cards. It was later that I did come to know that the first two pocket cards can tell you the end of the story!

In my first days of Texas Holdem I thought folding before making any bet is an act of cowardice. Silly me! Folding when you have the worse pockets is the best ever move and I learnt it from experience. Too much of optimism can turn your chips to nothing. I started to play tight and sensible!

What is Omaha High-Low?

What is Omaha High-Low? Playing with 4 pockets in the starting hand is what that differentiates Omaha High-Low from the Texas; the compulsion of having to use two cards form the pockets for the final poker requires a tight and serious concentration from the beginning.

I truly hated Omaha high-low when it was my turn in sharing the pots with the low rank when I did hold a high hand. However, I was happy to be shared with a percentage of the pot when I had the low rank. Did you not follow me? In Omaha High-Low, the pot is split in percentage with letting the high rank hand have half the pot and the low rank hand take the other half! So is the term Omaha high-low used.

Before I could play Omaha High-Low I had enough experience in a way enough to not to jester the table with my fool play. I graduated many dozen tables in Texas before I started to play Omaha High-Low.

As I began screwing up a couple of tables in Omaha high-low I gained more inner confidence and sometimes my luck box was just kicking the high and low! It was then I loved the game to the core. You know what? I target to make the high and low myself so that I can carry the pot myself! Don’t call it greed, it is called ambition!
