Stud poker is very different from the community games; there is not much of similarity between the community and stud games. Stud poker is different from community games, right from the dealing of cards through the street cards and through the betting pattern.

Stud poker is different from community games in that the pocket cards are dealt in a mixed way. There are totally 3 pocket cards in stud games; of that, the first two cards are dealt face down and the third pocket card otherwise called the third street card is dealt face down.

Stud poker is different from community games in the way the draw cards are dealt too!
In stud games there is not going to be any common board cards, instead each player is going to be dealt with a draw card in each rounds. And based on the number of cards it is names as fourth street card, fifty street card etcetera. Each player is dealt with a street card face up, except the last street cards all cards after the third street card are dealt face up.

Stud poker is different from community games in terms of betting also. The betting is quite non-positional in stud games. There are no blind bets in stud poker like in community games; instead there is an ante where all players are supposed to contribute to a predetermined number of stakes in to the pot.

The person to start the bet also varies in stud poker and it is not positional like in community games. Normally in every street card that is face up either the high rank or low rank card initiates the betting:-
The high card bets in third street (first round betting)
The low card bets in fourth street (second round betting)
The low card bets in fifth street (third round betting)
The low card bets in sixth street (fourth round betting)
The player clockwise next to the dealer bets in seventh street (first round betting) followed by a showdown.

What makes stud poker most challenging is that there is more information about the kind of hand one holds with most cards being face up! Of the seven cards that is dealt, one is to make 5 cards either high or low based on variation of stud to split the pot. Concealing the true identity of the pocket cards, contributes to a major winning in these games.
