What is Texas Holdem

It may not be quite difficult to find material about a basic introduction to what is Texas holdem in many sites out there. However, here is a simple explanation of what is Texas holdem is in a non-complicating manner.

Texas holdem is a community board game. A maximum of 2 to 8 players can play this game. These games have gained popularity as they are being played in major WPT, WSOP, EPT and many more famous tourneys worldwide. There are Texas holdem games available for cell phones these days!

Well, in Texas holdem there are only 2 pocket cards and this game is easier than Omaha in that there is no hard rule like 2 from board and 3 from community like in Omaha. With the 2 pocket cards you are supposed to make a high rank five card in a normal Texas holdem game; however, in a high-low variant of this game, you need to work towards making either a high or a low or both.

Preceding the dealing of the pocket cards the blind bets get over and after the cards are dealt each player is supposed to place their bets or fold. There can be a bet, call and a raise. A total or 3 raise is normal in a round and not more. The basic bet should normally be not less than the big bet.

After the betting round 3 community cards are dealt, those players that are still playing in the table are to compare their cards against these cards and decide on betting any further. This round is called the flop.

After the flop betting the one turn community card and one river community card is dealt with a turn betting followed by river betting subsequently and the best 5 high card wins the games.

Per Texas holdem strategies, it is always best to play good starting hands in an early position, which is the position next to the blind; a medium hand can still be tried, but should be folded if it does not improve in the flop. Like any other poker game, make your bets with a clear purpose and throw away cards when they are of no worth.
